It’s been quite a lot about my Nelly collection lately.. launch parties and presentations, but I wanted to get a chance to show you few of the items in real life and tell you the story behind the pieces. So this is the Steffi blazer that we made in black and dark grey. It’s named after my dearest younger sister Stefanie.
Living in another country, away from her and the rest of my family is probably the hardest thing with living abroad, so I convinced Steffi to start a blog (here)! Her style is quite androgynous and sporty. Hence a straight cut blazer, with a masculine influence and a little bit of padding on the shoulders for a slightly boxy shape and so my ideal blazer was born.
Around the time fashion week was kicking off, I was offered a small collaboration that I could not pass up on. My-wardrobe gave me the chance to design a dress together with Shaz, who is that mastermind behind the brand Math, that I wrote about here.
So we spent a day in his studio, sipping coffee and sketching. With his vision and my ideal dress in mind it wasn’t long until we had a draft of a perfectly balanced sporty design, that reflected the aesthetics of Math to a T and stood for all the things I love.
Mesh, leather and neon details - my ideal combination as well as the materials Shaz throughout his SS13 collection that he showed on LFW.
I loved the simple T-shirt sleeves and wrap-skirt effect that was created through the leather panels. Unbelievably the dress was delivered to me only 2 days after my studio visit and I proudly wore it to the SS13 Math show last Saturday.
Can’t wait to show you the dress and best of all.. I will be giving one of my readers the opportunity to collaborate with Math on a design just like this. More on that soon, in the meantime you can shop Math over at My-wardrobe.
I don't know how many of you have seen the shows from the Fall/Winter 2012/13 season but when I saw the Jill Stuart show I fell in love with it! The first thing that absolutely caught my attention and drew my attention was that they started off the show with one of my favorite models, Daphne Groeneveld. I also really liked that all of the model's hair styles were down, although I think a side part for some of them would have worked better. (I believe this video is a short/cut version with only some of the outfits so I labeled the outfits "1,2,3,etc" from how they appear in the video)
Now onto the clothes!
Outfit 1: (Daphne Groeneveld)
I really liked the first dress that was modeled by Daphne because not only did I really like the style and the way it was more form fitted in the top into the waist but then it had such a nice flow towards the bottom of the dress. Normally I wouldn't like a pattern like that but I actually think it worked! The one thing that I would change about the dress is the top of it, I'm usually not a big fan of necklines that go that far up, I would have rathered a nice v-cut or a lower scoop neck. Lastly, the shoes, which I loved! It really pulled the whole outfit together in the end. Defiantly something I would wear.
Outfit 2: (Model: Chrystal Copland)
My favorite part of this outfit was the shoes, which I loved! But to be honest I didn't like the rest. I don't like turtlenecks, never wear dress pants, and I just don't think the pattern works as well for the shirt as it did for the previous dress.
Outfit 3: (Valery Ka)
This cute skirt and shirt combo really made the show in my opinion, it was one of the most memorable outfits of the show and I absolutely loved it. I think the use of the same pattern that was in the first dress really works for this type of skirt, and although I probably wouldn't mix the pattern of the shirt with the skirt pattern I think it still looks good on the runway.
Outfit 4: (Chrystal Copland) I LOVE the boots! I am a huge fan of shoes and boots and that is one thing I think she designed very well. I also love the coat, defiantly something I would wear this winter. And the combo of the two makes me want to run to Jill Stuart store!
Outfit 5: (Model: Julia Frauche) There are only one thing I really like about this outfit and that's the shoes. I love the straps around the ankle, and the high platform in the front! Gorgeous :) I'm not a huge fan of the jacket, you would defiantly see me wearing the jacket in the previous look rather than this one.
Outfit 6: (Andie Arthur) Again, I love these shoes and I 'm so glad she paired them with many of her looks this show. I also think the outfit was well designed and looks amazing on the model and I loved the movement of the outfit when she was walking, I'm just not sure if its something you'd see me wearing. Maybe though, I'm still on the edge about this look.
Outfit 7: (Model: Magdalena Langrova) Again, loving the shoes so much! But I just think the rest of the outfit fell apart with the sweater having those awkward flowers ruining from the bottom of the sweater/shirt to the top. I kind of liked the pants, although just don't think I'd wear them.
Outfit 8: (Model: Joanna Koltuniak) I love everything about this outfit! The boots are just amazing I love the platform and the material of them. The flowey bottom part of the dress and lace top tied together with part of fabric identical to the bottom is just stunning. The only thing that I would change is to make the skirt part a tad bit shorter. Beautiful outfit that you would most defiantly see me wearing!
Outfit 9: (Model: Katya Ko) This outfit is very similar to the previous one, same bottom yet a slightly different design on the top of the dress. It was also paired with different shoes, which I still am in love with. I have to say though I like the upper design of the first dress better.
Outfit 10: (Model: Amanda Nimmo) I'm not a fan of this outfit at all. I like the idea of the fur hood although the pattern is not right for something this style.
Outfit 11: (Model: Juju Ivanyuk) Again, the boots are amazing and the more I see them and how they fit with so many different outfits the more I really want them! I'm not sure how much I like the dress, but I know I don't hate it. I do like the way the material looks, the color, and the style, but I'm still on the edge about the pattern.
Outfit 12: (Model: Karlina Caune) Once again I'm sure you can guess by now that I'm gonna say I love these shoes! If you look at the top it has a little bow, which I think is adorable. I'm not at all a fan of the skirt, I don't like the length nor do I like the design or change in fabric. The shirt is also not my favorite but I can tolerate it more than the skirt. The fur hood though I actually like and I think its supper cute and could complete an outfit.
Outfit 13: (Model: Colinne Michaelis) Besides for the boots I really don't like this outfit, the pattern isn't working for me and neither is the placement of the pattern.
Outfit 14: (Model: Amanda Nimmo) Similar to the previous outfit I do like the shoes but everything else falls apart with the clothes. I like the belt, but I feel like it doesn't flatter someone when it is on the jacket like that.
Outfit 15: (Model: Andie Arthur) This is by far my favorite outfit from the show. I can see myself wearing it everywhere! To class, to a coffee shop to do some work, to a party, or an event. The beauty of this dress is just stunning! I really like the belt because I feel it pulls its it all together.
Outfit 16: (Model: Katya Ko) I really like this outfit that is quite similar to the one before. I have to say though that I do like the one before better because I like the top design more. And of course I love these shoes. I would wear this for sure!
Outfit 17: (Model: Julia Frauche) I'm not a huge fan of this one, besides the shoes of course, because I don't really like the pattern that much and I also think that the fur on the top doesn't really go with the dress.
Outfit 18: (Model: Daphne Groeneveld) I love the bottom of this dress so much because of the way it flows, it is truly beautiful! The part that kills it is the top! I really don't like it and that would stop me from wearing the dress, although I would love to place the bottom of that dress with the top of another.
Outfit 19: (Model: Kendra Spears) Besides for the shoes (of course) and maybe the jacket, I'm not a huge fan of this outfit at all. I do like the hood though and I think with a different outfit of a different color the coat would work. I don't like the color mixture of this outfit, I think the coat would look really nice with a skirt and shirt of a different color.
Outfit 20: (Model: Joanna Koltuniak) I really like this dress as well as the shoes! I could see myself wearing it a lot. I think the way there is lace on the top of the dress as well as being incorporated in the bottom of the dress. Love it!
Outfit 21: (Model: Juju Ivanyuk) I don't really like the design of the dress because the top of it is too open for me, although I do like the pattern and I can see myself liking the dress if there was a different top.
Outfit 22: (Model: Anabela Belikova) I don't like this simply because it is too revealing, if I were to wear it with a slip or something of the sort under it then I believe I would wear it. Obviously someone would not expose themselves like that on the runway, therefore I wonder what her ideas are for wearing the dress off the runway.
Outfit 23: (Model: Kristina Romanova) I love the bottom part of this dress because of the pattern and the way it flows when she walks. However I don't like the top because it is too revealing and also I just don't like the design or the idea of that being matched with the bottom of the dress.
Outfit 24: (Model: Magdalena Langrova) I also don't like the dress because of the transparency of the material.
Well that was all of the dresses and outfits that I reviewed for today! I know there were tons more in the show but the video I watched was an edited version with only a few of the designs, and I'm kinda glad for that because I've been writing this post for days and I don't know how long it would have taken me if I had reviewed the whole show!! In conclusion, I am impressed with the Jill Stuart fall 2012 show and I hope to see more great designs from her in the future!
I’m in Finland again for a few days, just a quick visit to shoot something for a favorite Finnish magazine. We shot in the studio yesterday which was a nice change for me, not long until I’ll be able to show you the photos!
These where taken a few days ago back in London where I spontaneously bought up a box of these vintage 1970’s magazine clutches. So not just do I have one in every color but also a few extra that I am selling in my brand new shop, check it out here!
So quite an iconic piece this clutch and did I mention that Carrie had one....
